Department of Research and evaluation

The department of research and evaluation is one of the newly founded departments at Addis Continental Institute of Public Health. It includes the Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Monitoring and Evaluation of Health programs units. The department has a mix of senior and young staffs, who have been engaged in teaching, research and consultancy activities with enthusiasm. The staffs include two professors, three associate professors, six assistant professors and four lecturers; six of them are permanent staffs of the institute and nine are honorary staffs working in different capacity at public Universities of the country. Teaching Activities: the department provides different courses to Masters Students in all tracks at the institute (general MPH, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, Public Health Nutrition and Monitoring and evaluation of health programs track) in both certificate level and as part of the graduate studies. The courses given by the department are:

-Data Analysis and Scientific Writing Research Activities: the department has been conducting research in different public health areas collaborating with partners inside and outside of the country. So far the department conducted researches in the area of non-communicable diseases, infectious diseases, and health systems.

 Department of Public Health Sciences

The department of public health and social sciences is one of department of the Institute. Its mission is to advance the understanding and integration of social and behavioral determinants of health into public health. The Department participates in activities that implement and evaluate public health interventions and policies. The Department key activities includes conduct researches in the area of public health and Social Sciences; and providing trainings in Health promotion, Public Health, Health Service Management, Health economics, and Environmental health.

Projects coordination office

The project Coordination office, collaborating with the two departments of ACIPH conducts various projects, researches and trainings in the field of public health. The office coordinates project activities carried out by the institute and partners with different with local and international universities, government and Non-governmental organizations and private companies.

Some of the services coordinated by the office include:

  • Designing and conducting research: from protocol development to writing report;
  • Conducting monitoring and evaluation of projects and programs;
  • Organizing and supporting technical workshops;
  • Conducting needs assessment; and
  • Providing Consultancy services in health development based on request

The projects coordination office strives to support evidence based practice by conducting research and monitoring and evaluation activities. It provides technical support for organizations and/or individuals engaged in collecting, analyzing, and dissemination of health and population data/information. The office is responsible for technical team building for specific projects and provision of overall coordination. It engages the institute’s highly acclaimed experienced experts in the field of public health in developing research proposals, implementing field research, and performing data analysis and report writing.

Among the various areas of focus for public health coordinated by the office: HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Tuberculosis, Maternal Child Health, Infectious Disease, Violence against Women, Public Health Nutrition, Non-Communicable Diseases, Environmental Health and Health human resource management can be mentioned.

 Short term training coordination office

Addis continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH) over the years have collaborated with local and international universities to offer quality education in public health. This program aims at producing appropriately skilled experts at various levels of public health programs and policy making. The long-term training program focuses on strengthening the implementation capacity of organizations. In as much as possible, the program gives opportunity to the working professionals to enhance their individual and organizational capacity without necessarily detaching from their work.

Short-term trainings on selected public health areas is also tailored to meet the specific need of individuals/organizations. Both local and international trainings have been organized and delivered by the Institute; in collaboration with our partners around the world.

Training Quality Assurance & Gender Office

This office is responsible directly to the Deputy Director’s office.

The gender office promotes gender equality and women’s empowerment at ACIPH. The objective of the office is to mainstream gender in training, research and knowledge transfer partnerships and Networking and support service. Furthermore the office advocates for gender balance in access into the institute and contribute to enhancement of quality graduates.

The quality training assurance standards and guidelines have been developed by ACIPH and fully implemented. The office works with the Academic Standards & Quality Assurance Committee. The office ensures:

  • The assessment of students to be according to the published criteria, regulation and procedures of the institute’s senate legislation
  • The resources available for the support of student learning are adequate and appropriate for each program.
  • Fulfillment of the public role by providing information about programs ACIPH offering, the qualifications it awards, the teaching-learning and assessment procedures used.

Office of the Registrar

ACIPH Office of the Registrar consistently works to provide quality student services including keeping accurate information. The key activities include handling admissions and registrations; preparing official transcript and credentials; processing withdrawal and clearance of students; informing students timely their academic status; and advising and linking students needing consultation regarding academic, social and other matters. The registrar also serves as the center of all student counseling services and as an office for gender mainstreaming. 

Business and Development Unit

Business and development is one of the main units of the institute directly accountable to the Director. The department comprises of the Finance office and General Service Offices. The Department works on improving various institute performances, Assist with strategic planning, Monitor incoming finances and contribute to the development of the institutes’ vision.

ICT Unit

The Data Management and ICT unit is one of the principal units of the Institute directly accountable to the Director. It is well equipped and has established procedures for proper data management. It is supervised by a senior biostatistician. The unit manages research data undertaken by Institute including document/questionnaire management, manual editing of questionnaires using editing manual prepared in consultation with the subject matter specialists, preparing templates for the data entry, and data entry and cleaning.
