M&E workshop October 24,2016 - November 04,2016

Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH) in collaboration with Addis Ababa city administration Health Bureau and PEPFAR/US-CDC conducted a two weeks Training of Trainers Workshop on Monitoring and Evaluation of Population, Health and Nutrition (PHN) programs. The workshop was organized for professionals working in different hospitals, sub-city health offices and the city administration of the health bureau. The primary objective of this workshop was to describe the basic concepts and practical approaches for performance Monitoring and Evaluation for health programs; implement tools and techniques used specifically to population, health and nutrition programs and understand how to implement M&E plans in a way that produces high quality data that may inform policy and program decision making; and apply knowledge and skills acquired through the workshop in designing monitoring and evaluation plans.

The course content was designed to provide intensive training that covers the fundamental concepts and tools for monitoring and evaluating health programs. The course included sessions on: Adult learning principles, Introduction to M&E and Developing and Implementing M&E plans, Frameworks & Indicators, Use of Health Information and data quality, qualitative methods in M&E, Evaluation Designs, Evidence based decision making for health programs and Integrating Gender into M&E.

The training was conducted from October 24 – November 04, 2016 at Addis Continental Institute of Public Health Head Quarter, Addis Ababa. Twenty professionals participated in the training workshop. Most participants appreciated the M&E plan development skill that they developed from the training with extensive practical sessions and expressed their satisfaction with the training.  It is believed that the training will contribute to the use of competent Monitoring and Evaluation of various activities in the city’s health care system.
