Capacity building
Key Achieved Milestones:
The Addis Continental Institute of Public Health (ACIPH) is proud to lead the Capacity Building Work Package across all DASH partner institutions, championing the network’s goal of nurturing the next generation of adolescent health researchers. Significant progress has been made in strengthening research mentorship and technical capacity. Two Postdoctoral Fellows and one PhD student have been recruited and are actively contributing to core project activities, including protocol development, tool translation, scoping reviews, and conceptual framework design. In addition, twelve Master of Public Health (MPH) students have been supported to conduct their thesis research within the DASH framework, receiving mentorship, proposal guidance, and training through two structured workshops on adolescent health and data analysis.
ACIPH also led several network-wide training initiatives, including hosting the DASH Workshop for the Collaboration for Adolescent Health in Sub-Saharan Africa (CAH-SSA) in Addis Ababa, delivering a specialized training on adolescent health and methods in June 2024, and ensuring team participation in Good Financial Grant Practice (GFGP) training to enhance institutional standards and accountability.
Future Plans:
Building on these achievements, the Capacity Building team will continue mentoring postgraduate students and early-career researchers, facilitating manuscript development, and expanding training opportunities across partner institutions. Upcoming priorities include launching short-term courses on adolescent health research, data management, and scientific writing, while deepening collaboration within the DASH network. ACIPH will continue to lead this work package to ensure sustained knowledge transfer, institutional strengthening, and long-term impact on adolescent health research capacity in Ethiopia and beyond.
