Research Assistant position
(duration: 3 months)
We are seeking a motivated research assistant to support our initiatives in sustainable food systems, with a particular focus on urban farming and poultry management. The Research Assistant will provide technical and operational support to research activities, data collection, and field interventions related to urban farming and poultry
Key responsibilities
•Assist in research design, data collection, and analysis.
•Document urban farming and poultry activities, including lessons learned.
•Support training sessions, workshops, and field visits.
•Prepare reports, presentations, and knowledge products.
•Liaise with community members, schools, and partners to facilitate activities.
Educational Qualifications
•Degree in animal science, veterinary medicine, and a related field
•Specialized training in poultry management, feed formulation, or avian health is an added advantage.
Technical Expertise
•Proven ability to design, initiate, and sustain poultry farms (housing, infrastructure, and management systems).
•Strong knowledge of feed preparation, ration balancing, and nutrition for different poultry stages.
•Expertise in bird health management: disease prevention, vaccination schedules, biosecurity, and hygiene practices.
Practical Experience
•Minimum of 5 years of hands-on experience in poultry farming (broilers, layers, or dual-purpose).
•Demonstrated success in scaling or sustaining poultry enterprises.
•Experience with productivity monitoring and record-keeping.
Management & Leadership Skills
•Capacity to train and mentor staff or beneficiaries in poultry practices.
•Ability to develop SOPs, risk mitigation strategies, and monitoring frameworks.
•Strong problem-solving skills in farm operations.
Key Competencies
•Practical problem-solving and organizational skills.
•Interest in sustainable food systems and community-based interventions.
•Ability to work independently and take initiative
