The title of honorary doctor, doctor honoris causa, is conferred upon individuals, primarily from abroad, who have done outstanding academic work or in some other way promoted research at the University. Prof Yemane Berhane from Addis Continental Institue of Public Health, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia is one of the recipients of this honor in 2019. He is the first African to receive this honor from Uppsala University.
